Permanent Laser Hair Reduction  at Finchley Cosmetic Clinic

What System do we use for permanent hair reduction?

At Finchley Cosmetic Clinice use an advanced intense pulsed light(IPL) systems for permanent hair reduction. IPL  is a safe, long-term solution to unwanted, excess hair for both men and women. Treatment is suitable for the whole body, is quick and the results can be seen after just a few sessions.

How does IPL hair removal work?

Light is selectively absorbed by melanin, the pigment in the hair follicle. The light energy heats the pigment and effectively destroys the hair follicle without damaging the surrounding cells.

Am I suitable for treatment?

At Fichley cosmetic clinic, you will have an initial consultation with a laser therapist to assess your suitability for the treatment and if you are suitable a patch test will be performed to identify any abnormal reactions before having starting the course of treatment. Generally most people are suitable for treatment. Good  results are often achieved with most of the clients except clients with fair hair or darker skin types. Dark hair is most easily treated as it has a high concentration of melanin. Fair hair however, contains less melanin and is harder to treat. Grey/white hair has no melanin so is not suitable for treatment. For grey/fair hair we perform waxing or electrolysis.

Who will perform the treatment ?

At Finchley Cosmetic Clinic a trained laser therapist will perform the treatment

How does the treatment feel?

Treatment sensation varies but is often described as a “flick of an elastic band”. Typically no anaesthesia is required and most clients describe the discomfort as moderate and tolerable.

Are there any side effects?

The skin may be red immediately after treatment and the hair follicle may be swollen and lumpy but this usually subsides within a few hours. Adverse reactions are rare but may include a small blister or temporary lightening or darkening of the skin.

How many treatments are necessary?

Only hair that is actively growing is affected, therefore multiple treatments are needed. Treatment is conducted every 4 – 8 weeks, depending on the area treated, until a satisfactory result is seen. The required number of treatments varies, but typically 6 or more treatments are recommended for optimum results. the laser therapist will give you a rough idea about the number of sessions required.

What is the after care?

Immediately after a laser treatment, we will cool the skin especially the sensitive and red areas. Cooling can improve client comfort and reduce post treatment redness and/ or swelling. We will apply Aloe Vera gel and SPF50. We will also provide you with take-home instructions that will include the following:

  1. Avoidance of sun exposure or tanning beds for four weeks following treatment.
  2. Use of sunblock with SPF 50 .
  3. Avoidance of bleaching creams or perfumed products for 24 hours.
  4. keep the area clean and dry.
  5. If the area feel hot or swollen, the use of cool packs and  aloe Vera gel is strongly recommended. It will  improve client comfort and reduce erythema and swelling. If blistering or crusting occurs, do not pick or scratch the treatment area.

In an event of any unexpected skin reactions or even if you are not sure please call the clinic for further advice.
