Excessive sweating, or hyperhidrosis as it is referred to medically, is a condition that affects about 2-3% of the population, and can significantly blight the day to day lives of sufferers, impacting their social lives, relationships, careers and and mental well-being.
In some cases excessive sweating may be the result of an underlying medical condition, and this is known as Secondary hyperhidrosis but the most prevalent type is Primary focal hyperhidrosis. This is when excessive sweating is caused by faulty nerve signals resulting in sweat glands become hyperactive, even in cooler temperatures and non-activity based scenarios. Stress and nervousness may also cause a significant increase in excessive sweating.
