Where do we treat wrinkles with Botox?

At Finchley Cosmetic Clinic we recommend three main areas of treatment with Botox.

Frown Lines – Most commonly known as Glabella lines, frown lines develop in-between the eyes and can both age and give an ‘angry’ look to the face. If you frown lots these deep grooves will develop over time, whilst sun damage can also cause frown lines. These lines are often deep vertical grooves that can be successfully treated with Botox injections.

Forehead wrinkles -Wrinkles on the forehead run in horizontal lines and occur through general expressions over time. Forehead wrinkles generally age the face and can be easily treated with Botox injections.

Crow’s Feet wrinkles – Periorbital wrinkles are most commonly known as crows feet and inevitaby form with age and the constant expressions at the eyes. Smoking and sun damage can make these wrinkles deeper and more prevalent.

Botox FAQ

How does Botox work?

Botox works by blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles. The muscle then moves less, preventing the formation of lines and wrinkles

Is Botox Safe?

Botox is one of the safest non surgical treatments you can have with many years proven effectiveness. There are little side effects, with the most common being bruising at the site of injection.

How long does Botox last?

The length of time that the muscle does not move varies from person to person. On average Botox lasts between 4-6 months.

 Does the treatment hurt?

We administer a topical numbing cream prior to our injections at The Finchley Clinic. This is of course optional and in general the discomfort is minimal.

After Your Botox Treatment

  1. Try not to touch the injected area for 4 hours after treatment.
  2. Ensure that you remain upright (no yoga classes!).
  3. Move the muscles after treatment as this works the Botox into the area.
  4. Do not exercise for 48 hours.
  5. Take a paracetamol if you feel it is needed.
  6. Arnica cream can be applied to any bruising.
  7. Botox works over time and you will still experience movement until the injection takes effect.

Some common questions and answers about our Botox treatment

What is a Botox Treatment?
Botulinum Toxin (Botox ®) is administered via injection directly into the muscle in order temporarily relax the muscle by blocking nerve impulses. The effect of this is to block the muscles ability to contract, thereby preventing wrinkles from forming . The benefit is smoother, more youthful skin that does not have the deep lines caused through repetitive frowning, smiling or scowling.

Is the treatment safe?
Botulinum Toxin has a long and tested life as a treatment in medicine. It has been used successfully in adults and children for various medical conditions over the last 20 years. As a cosmetic application Botox has been used for about 15 years as a successful enhancement.

Can everybody have Botox?
Botox is a treatment that both men and women can enjoy. There are some factors that could prevent you having Botox as a non surgical cosmetic procedure such as children under 18, pregnant and breast feeding women, those with chronic diseases effecting the muscles, those people that have experienced an allergic reaction to Botulinum type A injections and those that have infection at the proposed treatment area.

Does the treatment hurt?
Most people report that the Botox injection is relatively painless with nothing more than a slight scratch from the fine needle. If you require a numbing cream we do provide this at our Finchley Clinic. There is little discomfort after the treatment and most people return to work after their Botox has been administered.

How Long Do The Effects Last?
Once the injection has taken effect (2-14 days after the treatment has been administered) The muscle should not contract for at least 3 months. That said everybody has an individual time scale dependant on the location and strength of the muscle movement. Some patients enjoy the effects of Botox for 6 months and we find the average to be about 3-4 months.

Are there any side effects?
It is typical to see a little swelling or redness at the site of the Botox injection and this is nothing to worry about. Slight bruising is also possible but hardly ever experienced here at the clinic. These minor side effects disappear within a day or two. Occasionally, the treatment may relax nearby muscle groups causing temporary drooping of the eyebrow or eyelids, this is however quite rare and can be addressed by returning immediately to the Clinic for the Dr to re-assess. Some people experience positive side effects such as the alleviation of tension head aches and migraines.

Will my face look like a mask?
We have all seen those people that have a little too much Botox and seem to reduce expression in their face. Our treatments are designed to smooth dynamic wrinkles in the forehead and around eyes, they do not affect your facial expression. Each patient receives a free consultation and it is here that we understand what effect you are looking to achieve.

What After Care Advice Should I Follow?
After you have received your Botox treatment try to move the muscle area as much as possible. Avoid touching the skin at the site directly and do not apply makeup. Do not have facials or massage at all and avoid alcohol and exercise for 2 days. Applying Arnica is fine for slight bruising and paracetamol can be taken if any discomfort is felt.
